DATA PROCESSING SPECIALIST

CAMRIS International is seeking a Data Processing Specialist to work on our MEASURE DHS project.  MEASURE DHS is a project designed to assist governments, donors, and private agencies to implement population and health surveys.  To date, we have completed more than 240 surveys in more than 85 countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the former Soviet states. The Data Processing Specialist will be based in the home office of ICF Macro, our partner in MEASURE DHS, with occasional domestic and international travel.  (ICF Macro is conveniently located in suburban Maryland at the intersection of 495/95 near the Silver Spring/Technology Corridor adjacent to Route 29/Colesville Road.)

Responsibilities will include:   

  • Develop and maintain software systems for data entry, editing, imputation, and analysis for paper based population surveys in developing countries
  • Develop and support PDA and laptop based computer-aided interviewing systems in developing countries
  • Build capacity in implementing agencies worldwide via workshops and seminars on data use and survey processing
  • Produce data analysis to support country report production
  • Carry out data archiving and provide technical support for data users

Requirements for this position include: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Demography, or Public Health related fields required.  Master’s preferred.
  • Strong programming skills in an accepted programming language such as C#, C++, Java, etc.  Experience using CSPro would be a plus.
  • Availability to travel internationally approximately 15% of the time.

Preference will be given to candidates with the following qualifications and experience:

  • Familiarity with DHS datasets
  • Experience in public health or demographic research
  • Familiarity with SPSS, SAS, Stata, or other statistical software packages
  • Experience in working or living in the developing world
  • A relevant second language, such as Spanish, French, Russian or Arabic.

Sr. Project Manager to staff research and evaluation research projects in public health, health communication, and human service areas. Responsible for client relations and budgets, supervision of others to complete components of research projects such as literature reviews, site visits, in-depth interviews, focus group support, survey design and administration, data analysis, and report writing. Proven track record to synthesize quantitative and qualitative data from a variety of sources, write for technical and non-technical audiences, interact effectively with both clients and colleagues, and think analytically. Qualifications: Masters degree in public health, public policy, communication, behavioral or social sciences, or related field required with at least 6 years relevant experience, or Ph.D. with at least 4 years relevant experience. Technical Director responsible for independently conceptualizing, designing and directing assignments related to various new and on-going projects, as well as initiating, managing and contributing substantively to new business efforts. Additional responsibilities include the following: Identify, manage and serve as primary contributor to proposals and other new business efforts that are responsive to client needs; direct multiple projects concurrently, to include managing budgets and other project resources; manage senior staff, with responsibility for staff performance management and evaluation and the effective utilization and development of staff skills. Qualifications: Masters degree in public health, public policy, communication, behavioral or social sciences, or related field required with at least 8 years relevant experience, or Ph.D. with at least 6 years relevant experience; educational and experience background that substantially contributes to the company’s ability to perform current client requirements and contributes to the company’s ability to attract, attain, and retain new business and/or expand current business efforts.
